CITY GUIDE

 

 

This set of directions will help you to get the most out of these debates:

 

on your own

-Put on your headphones and adjust the volume

-Click on your assigned city and listen to Lincoln and Douglas without taking notes

-Keep from moving on to the next city by clicking back to the map

-Read the list of guiding questions below:

What seems to be the main point of these speeches?  How do you know?

Is there a quote, or something they said, that stands out to you?

What are they debating about?  

What is the crowd saying “boo” or “hooray” to?

What do you think is the main point of Lincoln’s speech? Why?

What do you think is the main point of Douglas’ speech? Why?

-Click on your assigned city again and listen to the debates

-Return to the guiding questions and fill in as many as you can

-Listen to the debates one more time and fill in any gaps

 

in a Conference

-Grab your City Template and get together with your team members.  If they are not done listening to the debates, start to fill out the template on paper while you wait.

-In city teams decide what the main points of each speech are and fill in the boxes under Lincoln and Douglas

-Using that evidence you just put in the boxes, answer the question:

What are Lincoln and Douglas debating about in­_____________________? 

Don’t forget to put your city name in the blank!

 

on the Computer

-Open Inspiration 8 and fill in the template with what you have on paper.

-Follow the directions on the screen!

-SAVE YOUR WORK by going to the top of the screen, clicking FILE and SAVE AS.

-Save the document in the class period folder in this format:

First & Last Name_City Name

-When you are done filling in the template on the computer, raise your hand to receive the Multimedia guide.
