Purpose and Background

Several projects you create in the course will be placed on your Web site.  You will be creating your site throughout the course, editing it and adding to it.  At mid-semester, you will receive a preliminary evaluation of your site.  Your final grade for this project will not be assigned until the end of the course; however, it is important to keep your site up to date throughout the course.

Grades for your projects will depend upon keeping your site up to date, as these assignments will be accessed off the Internet and graded as they come due in the course.

Website Components

Be sure all of your web pages have been created in tables:

Create a home page

*       Name it Index, and save it in the correct  file folder

*      Insert links to your main web pages

*      Modify your home page throughout the course

Add a bio to your website

Maintains your course projects on the website

 Create hyperlinks

*      Insert hyperlinks in files for viewers to navigate around your site

*      Insert appropriate links for taking viewers to logical places (e.g., moving from review to a lesson plan and back again)

*      Test links before uploading

*      Keep track of your links and diagram your site (try a webbing diagram or a flow chart)

*      Use the copy command to save time; copy and paste your links from one file to another, as needed.

Embellish web pages with

*       Font style, color, size

*       Backgrounds (no busy backgrounds)

*       Clip art, bullets, and graphics

*       Pictures and photographs

*      Keep your pages neat

*      Maintain a consistent look throughout your site

*      Remember contrast: light background and dark font

Create two annotated (descriptive) lists of favorite websites) that include teacher resource sites as well as sites that students can use. You need to separate the teacher sites and student sites as web pages so students could easily use only that page that pertains to them.  Please be sure your annotated list of information is easy to use for viewers. Include approximately 10 sites for each audience, though feel free to add more.  Option: You can use a social bookmarking site such as Delicious.com, but you must have a link on your homepage for a viewer to access your Delicious site.

Reminders:

*      Add last revised dates and email to each page

*      Upload frequently to help with revising and editing

*      Be sure to check links and to keep a to-do list

Final Evaluation (Criteria):

*       Inclusion of: 2 reviews, lesson based on one of the reviews, WebQuest (teacher and student components), PowerPoint (2 formats), PowerPoint descriptive list, PowerPoint explanation, and bio page

*       Overall ease of navigation (appropriate hyperlinks)

*       Functional hyperlinks (check them often)

*       File management (appropriate files maintained within one file folder)

*       Easy-to-read and use page layouts (no distractions, background to text contrast)

*       Clarity of design (pages are laid out clearly)

*       Effective and comprehensive annotated list of web sites.
