Once you select new slide, you should see the options for slide layouts.  Look for the layouts called Text Layouts.  Select the one called Title and Text.  It has a title bar and a few lines with bullets.  Hover with your mouse to make sure the slide layout called “Title and Text” has been selected.  (By the way, PowerPoint might default to this option without you selecting it.)
Click in the text box for the Title, and type in “African Elephant.”  The click in the text box for the bulleted text, and type in the text as it appears on model, hitting return at the end of each bulleted line.  A new bullet will appear each time you hit return.  (The layout of the slide will change once you insert the picture.)  When you finish typing all of the text, go to the Insert menu, and select Picture from Clip Art.  Search for a picture of an elephant.  Insert the appropriate picture, and size and position it to look like the model.
Now insert the background (Format, Background, Fill Effects accessed from drop down arrow, Texture: Newsprint (first choice)
You are now ready for slide 3.  Hit the new slide button.
