Inserting Backgrounds

Simple Method

Go to the Format menu and select Background.  If you would like a colored background, use one of the colors shown or select the option, “More Colors.”  If you would like a fill effect, select this option when you select the Background option.  Be very careful with the background you select.  You will want a very light background or a muted texture so your dark font is easy to read.  Remember that you need a sharp contrast between your font color and background.  Simple white backgrounds have become increasingly common on the Internet; however, if you prefer a color or light texture, select one with discretion.  It is generally helpful to use the same background throughout your site or for at least parts of your site that have a common theme.

Storing Backgrounds Found on the Internet in a Folder and Inserting the Backgrounds

If you are on the Internet using a site that allows you to copy backgrounds, you can save a background much the way you save a picture from the Internet.  Set up a folder on your U drive called Backgrounds and save backgrounds to this folder.  Name the backgrounds, being sure to use a short, one word name.  When you want to insert the background on a page, go to Format, select Background, and then select Fill Effects and Texture.  On the Texture menu, there is an option called, “Other.”  Use this option to find the background that you saved and insert it.
