Student Directions:  Follow these step-by-step directions to complete the assignment.

1)       Enter the program by clicking on “continue” and click on the continent we live on.

2)       From there, click on the country we live in.

3)       When you have a map of the United States

4)       Click on Historical Maps in the left hand column and select “topic” from the gray tabs at the top (it’s the last one)

Note: At any time you may return to a world or country map by clicking on the pictures at the top of the page.

5)       Select Native American Civilizations and click on “United States (Native American Groups) 1500”

Now you should have a blown up United States map with different regions labeled with different Native American            tribes.  The tribes are clustered into groups depending on their location.

6)       Find the individual tribe that you have been studying.

Now it’s time to add your pictures!  You want people to be able to look at your map and determine which types of crops, animals, and habitats your Native Americans planted, hunted, used or lived in.  Using your research book on Native Americans for information your job is to use the computer software to locate the appropriate “stamps” or pictures and then place them onto the map.  In order to do this you need to:

v      Click on the gray “draw” tab in the top left hand corner (Behind the current tab you are on right now which says “find”)

v      Find the purple column of icons going down the left side of the map.  Go to the bottom of the column and click on the picture of a stamp.

v      From the menu at the top select “animals” (it should already be there), and choosing animals that your tribe either used and/or hunted click and drag them into the area where your tribe lives.  Don’t overdue it!  Choose only a few of each animal and spread the stamps out in the correct area.  For example, if your tribe hunted buffalo then select a few buffalo, and click and drag them into the area where your tribe lives.

v      Continue adding stamps from the “habitat” and “crops” menus.  (You get these from the same menu you selected the “animals” from.)

After you have labeled your map be sure to print it.  To do this choose “file” and scroll down to “print”

Add this new page into your research book on Native Americans
