Software Lesson On Timeliner 5.0

Subject: Reading Comprehension and Computer Technology

 

Introduction:The computer software that will be used during this lesson is TimeLiner 5.0. TimeLiner 5.0 is an easy-to-use tool that can be used across the curriculum for creating time lines of a variety of events.  TimeLiner 5.0 has the ability for its user to choose from 4 types of time lines.  The user is also given the choice to print time lines that view data, list information, and view on one page or several pages.  This will be an introductory lesson on how to use this software program.  The student will create a timeline using the information that he/she has gathered from his/her choice of biographies that the student has read prior to this lesson.  This information will be listed on a worksheet that the student has completed prior to this lesson

  

Objectives:

1.       Prior to this lesson, the student will be able identify and list 10 significant dates and events in the life of the person that he/she has read about.

2.       Using the 10 events identified from the student’s chosen biography, the student will be able to create his/her own timeline using the TimeLiner 5.0 program.

 

Initiation:

            I will initiate this lesson by explaining to the class that today they will begin creating their own timelines using the TimeLiner 5.0 program.  They will be inputting the data that they have listed on their worksheets while reading their biographies.  This data includes important events in a persons life along with the date that corresponds to when the event took place.

 

Materials:

            (Per student)

Computer

TimeLiner 5.0 software program installed in each computer

            Completed worksheet (dates and events)

 

Procedures:

                  1.  Demonstrate how to get into the TimeLiner 5.0 Program.

2.  Demonstrate how to enter the information (dates and events) into the program.

1.       Have the students enter their information into the program.

2.       Demonstrate the icons that show list, banner, compact, and data view.

3.       Demonstrate the label icon.   Have students enter their titles.

4.       Demonstrate the graphic icon.  Have students enter a picture of the person they read about.

5.       Print timeline once all information is entered and proofread.

 

 

Closure:

            I will review with the class what they did during today’s lesson.

             

Assessment:

            Student’s understanding will be assessed through observation during the inputting activity and based on completion of the time line.
