Respond to all of the following questions. These questions* relate to the sample memoirs in Call to Write.
"A Surgeons' War On Breast Cancer"
What dominant impression does the profile create for you? How do you think O'Neill want the reader to see Dr. Love? How does O'Neill establish such a perspective for readers?
Notice the use of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Select specific words, phrases or sentences that work to convey the impression that O'Neill wants to achieve. Locate examples of different kinds of evidence--quotations from Dr. Love and others, dialogue, observed details, background information--O'Neill uses to build a dominant impression. Why is the use of different kinds of evidence particularly effective?
