Journal 15: Gathering Ideas for Your Review

How do you find out about movies, CDs, television shows, live music, books, restaurants, concerts, Web sites, and so on? What factors make you decide if you want to do something? Are you influenced by reviews? Do you read reviews in any specific places or listen to them on television? Do you have any favorite reviewers or places for finding reviews? If so, why do you trust these sources? Do you listen to word-of-mouth reviews from family, friends, and others? Do you give word-of-mouth reviews? What criteria do you think are important in giving reviews?

See pages 441-442 in Call to Write. Several ideas and strategies for writing reviews are listed here. Consider them, and select from the list ideas that appeal to you for this assignment.

To help you get started on writing your review, see the Invention exercise on pages 442-443 in Call to Write. There are five bulleted points here. Go through these and use them as prompts in your journal to gather notes for getting started on writing your review.
