Reader Rabbit 1

Lesson Plan

Created by Suzanne Long

Introduction

The students participating in this lesson will be Title I identified students. The particular group of children consists of a small group of second graders, who are still having trouble remembering the short vowel sounds. During the designated times that I work with these students, I will pull them to work on the computer. This will take place in their classroom. Each classroom has a computer with a CD-ROM drive. The rest of the class will be doing their work with the classroom teacher. The lesson can be done with a small group, partners or individuals, depending on need. I will demonstrate the program to the students. Practice on the program will occur, without my assistance, for two twenty-minute sessions. This practice will then be reinforced with a guided book reading and a short vowel sounds card game. The book, Ted's Red Ball, contains words with all short vowel sounds.

Learning Objectives

  1. Students will generate the short vowel sound in CVC pattern words.
  2. Students will be able to blend beginning consonant, short vowel sound and final consonant into words.
