Workshop Opening: A Freewrite

Select one of the following questions to respond to in a freewrite.  Keep writing for five minutes, including whatever comes to mind.  Keep your pen moving and your ideas flowing, somewhat in a stream-of-consciousness style.  If you run out of ideas, try another question.  The main point is not to stop writing and not to let your pen leave the paper until the full five minutes are up.

Topics

  • What can we, as instructors, do to make writing enjoyable for students?

  • What is your attitude about including writing in college courses?

  • What are some the more successful writing assignments that you have given, and why do you think they were successful?
