Hats for Haiti Raises $450.00
The Gengras Center Student Council held a "Hats for Haiti" day on Friday January 29, 2010.
Staff and Students paid $2.00 to wear a hat all day. All proceeds raised were donated to the Haitian Relief Efforts.

Saint Joseph College Wins CASE District 1 Communications Awards for 2010
Saint Joseph College won two awards, one of which was a Bronze award for the new Gengras Center Brochure.

This prestigious recognition earned from CASE judges - all of whom are seasoned professionals - distinguishes the calibre and quality of work produced by the Office of Marketing and Communications at SJC over the last year in advancing the College’s message to the public.
These projects also drew on the talents of: Michelle Lestrud, assistant director (The Gengras Center); Justin McGlamery, facilitator (Adventure Education & Technology, The Gengras Center).

Activities and Events are a big part of The Gengras Center community.
Students are able to socialize with one another, as well as with
non-disabled peers in a variety of structured activites and events such as:

 

Performances

Annually, the Gengras Center conducts a Holiday Performance at the Hoffman Auditorium
on the Saint Joseph College campus. The Gengras Center encourages all students to be involved in our performances.

Chorus

Students have the opportunity to perform at various Gengras Center and Saint Joseph College events.
Rehearsals are held during school hours.

Special Olympics

Our students participate in both the winter and summer games. Practices are held on a weekly basis during the school day.

Evening Activities

Activities are held in the evening on a monthly basis. Dances, Adventure Education Family FUNN Night, crafts, and an end of the year Prom are some of the activities offered.

Sports Teams

Sportsmanship and teamwork are emphasized. All practices and games are held during school hours.

Cross Country/Track
Volleyball

Community Experiences

Students apply skills in real life situations with trips to hardware stores, drug stores, grocery stores, laundromats, restaurants,
shopping malls and parks. Students are trained to travel on public transportation.

Cultural Events

Cultural events such as attending plays or productions at the Bushnell Theater or Hoffman Auditorium, as well as in-school
events which bring in a variety of presenters and activities, such as storytellers, drumming workshops, and Irish step-dancing.

Educational Activities

Instructional-related experiences such as visits to the Science Museum, Beardsley Zoo, Bronx Zoo, Auer 4H Farm,
Fishing Derby, Wadsworth Athenaeum, Old State House, and the Capitol Building.
