Lesson Sequence:

This activity can be utilized in either a whole group setting or independently during literacy centers. When completing this in a whole group situation, all students can listen to the same story using the Smart Board.  When presenting this assignment in small group, students have the option to choose one of 3 stories.  This activity can be further extended until all students have listened to and completed the assignment for all three stories.

1.    Students access the http://www.storylineonline.net/ website stored in the computers favorites.  (Teacher models how to access this site).

2.    The students will select from the three stories chosen by the teacher: Enemy Pie by Derek Munson, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox, The Night I Followed My Dog by Nina Laden.

3.    Once students have chosen a story, students need to click on the story icon and then click on the term “Let’s Read It!” to access or listen to the story.

4.    After listening to a story, the students will complete the worksheet asking them to write their first and last name, write the title of the book and then draw the beginning, middle and end of the story.  Worksheets can be provided in hardcopy format for students in class.  Additionally, parents and students can access this form using the Internet lesson plan.

5.    Assess the students’ work using the provided rubric.
