Sexually Transmitted Diseases Web Quest
Introduction: (5
minutes) Sexual
activity has many consequences for young children. Sexually transmitted diseases
are one of these consequences. So how does an adolescent protect themselves
against these infections? In this web quest, you will learn how an STD can
affect the body as well as how to prevent it. Today
you will be using the Internet to research information about a sexually
transmitted disease. You will work with a partner to complete this lesson. In
the beginning of class, you or your partner picked an index card with an STD
listed on it. Whichever disease is listed on your card is the topic you will
research. Your
task is to read and answer questions about the disease you are researching.
Once you have completed the STD worksheet you will create a presentation to
educate the rest of the class about the disease you investigated. Note:
Be sure you obtain enough information to describe the STD. Here is
what you must do to complete the lesson? 1.
Print
a copy of the STD worksheet 2. Review the worksheet to see what types of
questions you must answer. (2 minutes) 3. Go to http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/sexual_health/stds/std.html On this page you find general information
about sexually transmitted diseases. You must read this section and use the information
to answer some of the questions on your worksheet. 4. At the bottom of the page you will see a
list of the sexually transmitted diseases. Click on the disease you are
researching or click on the links below to get there quickly: Pelvic
Inflammatory Disease (PID) 5. Use the information on these pages to
answer the remainder of the questions. In addition to the information on each
page, you may click on the side tabs to find more articles and resources
about the STD. (30-35 minutes) 6.
When
you are finished, hand in the completed STD worksheet. Note: This will be graded so check your work! 7. When you are finished review your
information and get ready to present it to the class. You and your partner
must make a short presentation to the class that will explain the STD you
researched. You will work on this tomorrow in class. Presentation details Homework: For
homework you and your partner must write 2 paragraphs each about the disease
you researched. Write a short summary describing the major details of the
STD. This assignment will give you and your partner a head start for the
presentation. Homework assignment will be graded as part of your presentation
grade. Assessment: Your
sexually transmitted disease worksheet will be graded. 60% of final grade. You
must complete the homework assignment and make a presentation. 40% of final
grade. |
