Sites Most Helpful For Teachers of

Grades One, Two, and Three

General Teacher Sites:

www.atozteacherstuff.com – This website is a great idea starter and/or resource for teachers.  The site offers a variety of links through the curriculum such as links for butterflies, magnets, word search maker, science experiments, leveled books database, etc.

www.EnchantedLearning.com – This site offers more if you subscribe to it.  If you choose not to subscribe, free teacher resources are available at the bottom of the website.  There are printable books, and current holiday themed ideas (for example, Halloween activities are available around Halloween).  There is also a link for Spanish activities, such as book making.

www.sitesforteachers.com – Sites for Teachers offers over 1,000 favorite teacher links.  These links are ranked in order of popularity.  Currently, the #1 teacher site is for an on-line reading program.  All sites have a short description as to what the site is about or may offer.

Reading & Writing:

www.readwritethink.org – This site has been put out by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the International Reading Association (IRA).  A very strong professional resource, the Read * Write * Think site “provides teachers and students access to the highest quality practices and resources in reading and language arts instruction.”

www.suzykline.com – A website for a popular children’s author, Suzy Kline.  Some of Suzy’s books include the Horrible Harry Series and the Herbie Jones series.  Her site provides teachers with a current list of Suzy’s published books and downloadable Reader’s Theaters.

www.tomie.com – Tomie dePaola’s official website.  Tomie is a popular children’s author and illustrator.  Some of his books include “Strega Nona” and “Bill and Pete.”  Tomie’s website includes a list of his newest releases, and some coloring pages.

Math:

www.coolmath.com – A wonderful resource for teachers, parents, and students, this site offers algebra, fractions, and multiplication lessons and activities.  Teachers may also want to use this site as a whole class activity/lesson (use of Smart Board or projector recommended for whole class lessons).

www.coolmath4teachers.com – This site offers tips for learning, various links to other math sites, and a rewards chart maker.

www.pbs.org/teachersource/math.htm -- A well put together site, this site is appropriate for teachers of grades Pre-K to 12.  Once in the grade level and area of interest, the site offers many interactive areas for teachers and students.  The site also makes various lesson plans available for use.

Science:

www.billnye.com – This site is useful for both teachers and students.  The site is interactive and interesting.  Teachers can also find science experiments/activities that correspond with curriculum (for example, instructions are given for the creation of personal tornados using soda bottles).

www.newenglanddairycouncil.org – Teaching nutrition is required by the State of Connecticut for Grade Two teachers.  The New England Dairy Council has put out a superb site for teachers, parents, and other health professionals.  This site offers numerous dairy and bone-building lessons and activities.  There are also many helpful links listed in this site as well.

http://school.discovery.com – Created by the Discovery Channel, Discovery School allows teachers and students to view and “tour” some of the country’s most popular National Parks.  The site also allows the user to correspond lessons with some programs aired on the Discovery Channel (for example, Animal Planet has aired a show called “Champions of the Wild.”  This show was about some of the most powerful animals on our planet).
