www.readinga-z.com

Visit this reading site for many different materials and lessons in comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, reader’s theater, guided reading books, assessments and more!  If you have a membership, the materials and information you can get are abundant.  However, without a membership, you can still have access to some of the materials and ideas.

www.yahooligans.com

Yahooligans! is a browsable, searchable directory of Internet sites for kids.  Each site has been carefully checked by an experienced educator to ensure the content and links are appropriate for kids aged 7-12.  This site also has teacher guides that are sometimes useful.

www.scholastic.com

This site is great for book club ordering (great book prices!!), lesson plan ideas, classroom management tips, and to level any books you have according to Fountas and Pinnel DRA Guided Reading levels.  Visit the e-catalog to do this.

www.pbskids.org

This is a great site for both science and social studies!  When studying a country, students can actually learn about the country on this site and visit schools, towns, and many other places within the country.  When my class studies Kenya, Africa and Japan, I have my students visit this site and they actually visit a school in the country and compare/contrast it to their school.

http://kids.nationalgeographic.com

I use this website as an extension lesson to the monthly National Geographic magazines we read.

Who doesn’t LOVE the Magic School Bus?!

http://www.storylineonline.net

This site shows a celebrity reading a children’s book aloud, and shows the pictures of the book.  The kids actually get to hear and see a famous celebrity reading a popular children’s book to them.  Each book comes with activities and lesson ideas.

www.shelsilverstein.com

This site provides activities and downloads poetry for students.  If you click on “Shel’s Books”, you can hear Shel read one of his poems or an excerpt from one of his books.  These are accompanied by very entertaining animation.  There is also a link for parents and teachers.  This link provides a classroom poetry kit, and Runny Babbit kit, as well as an alphabetized list of poems.

www.kidsreads.com

This is a great website for teachers and students where there is information about favorite children’s books and authors.  This site will provide students with information they need to choose books that they would find interesting and motivating.  It provides book reviews and excerpts on hundreds of titles.  Searches can be done alphabetically by title or author.  Clicking on the “features” button brings you a list of “Cool New Books”.  The “features” button also gives information about current events, movies and more.  The website has numerous word scramble and trivia games that are tied to popular books and series, as well as contests.  These can be used to support teaching in the classroom and make reading fun.  This website is easy to navigate- a must see!

Welcome to the companion website for Elementary and Middle School Mathematics, 6th Edition by John A. Van de Walle.  This site is very useful because the authors have put together a lot of resources in a very organized format.  To begin, click on a chapter of interest or use the search feature on the top right of the page.  Once you have chosen a chapter, you can click on any of these sections, which are available for each chapter: Summary of key ideas in the selected chapter, web-links, web activities, expanded lessons, and additional readings.

http://illuminations.nctm.org

This is a very powerful website.  Teachers can reference lesson plans, virtual manipulatives, and links to other web sites all sorted by math topic and grade level.

http://www.kathimitchell.com/mathfolder/mathpage.htm

This is an interesting web site created by Kathi Mitchell.  She has created some nice resources based on the activities of John Van de Walle.

http://www.center.k12.mo.us/edtech/everydaymath.htm

This is a well-organized web page organized by the Everyday Math curriculum.  It has some general tools and a page for each grade level.  If you scroll to the bottom of the page you will find other links that might be of interest such as eMints (large data base of lessons sorted by themes), Smart Board lessons and ideas, and Tech Help (a series of tutorials about various types of software such as Excel and building web pages).
