Examples of Technology in My Science Classroom

 

 

Websites for Students

 

·        www.kidshealth.org – This website hosts a wealth of information.  I have used articles in several different units including the human body and food preservation.  There are three different levels including kids, teens, and parents.  These levels help in differentiating within the classroom because kids’ articles can be given to struggling readers.

 

·        www.brainpop.com – Students can access this site (with a log-in) to view any of the video clips and their accompaniments.  Appropriate experiments and quizzes are linked to video clips.  Middle school students would enjoy Tim and Moby as they explore the world of science.  Webquests that include this site would be meaningful to students.

 

·        www.cellsalive.comCells Alive! is a website that is well known to secondary and college science teachers.  The site offers wonderful graphics and descriptions, as well as quizzes and models.  Students can investigate the anatomy of the cell, the cell cycle, and differences between animal/plant cells.

 

·        http://www.sparknotes.com/home/mathsci/ - Sparknotes includes study guides for all subjects, though this link brings you to the math and science menu.  All of the science disciplines are represented, and students can access a number of topics in each.  In addition to the textbook and other class materials, students can use these guides to further explore topics.

 

·        http://www.seaworld.org/animal-info/animal-bytes/index.htm - Sea World has a large listing of different species on this website that include a photo, general information, and fun facts about each animal.  Students can search through an alphabetical species list or a taxonomic list.  The latter allows students to see what types of species are related.  This site would be useful when learning about organization of species as well as other ecological topics.
